Adventures of a London Kiwi

A London Food and Travel blog full of unique experiences.

The Best Pubs in London | Written By a Thirsty Londoner

August 7, 2022

Pubs. They’re great, aren’t they? London is great too. Put these together and what do we have? – the great London Pub. It’s practically an institution in British culture, and often becomes the extended lounge of busy Londoners. With that in mind, I thought my blog was lacking a list of the best pubs in London, so I roped in my local expert of hopped beverages.

The Best Pubs in London Adventures of a London Kiwi I met my lovely husband in a London pub (read our story here), and so it was only natural to ask him to share his favourite pubs in London – the ones he disappears to when I’m busy with blogging fun! Take it away Mr Kiwi!

A Unique London Afternoon Tea (almost) Worth Getting Arrested For – The Dixon Hotel, London Bridge

June 22, 2022

Fancy a very unique London afternoon tea (almost) worth getting arrested for? (To be fair, the ladies I was with are the ones who I’d either be in jail beside or calling at 3am to arrange rescue/bail.)

Unique Afternoon Tea The Dixon Hotel London Bridge

The Dixon Hotel is in a Grade II-listed Edwardian building that was formerly a Magistrates’ courthouse and police station, near London Bridge, down Tooley Street, next to Tower Bridge.Read more

Free Things to do in London | The Tate Britain: A Walk Through Art History

April 19, 2022

One of my favourite free things to do in London is exploring the amazing museums dotted around the city. I’m as guilty as any one of taking this city for granted at times, so recently I’ve started to make a point of exploring it properly again.

Free Things to do in London Tate Britain

Now, you’ve got all your classical Grand Dames of the London Museum scene (sounds like they all rave together with that sentence – though I have heard things about the joint Christmas parties…) We’re talking the British Museum, the V&A (my personal favourite), the Science Museum, the National Gallery, the Tate Modern… or proper niche places like the Clown Museum, the Sewing Machine Museum, the Doctor Who Museum or the Freud Museum.

The Sewing Machine Museum | Quirky Things to do in London

April 7, 2014

Let’s be frank, how many sewing machines are currently languishing in long dusty forgotten corners of home cupboards? Not so here at the Sewing Machine Museum. Yes – you read that correctly. In a quiet corner of Tooting Bec, perched atop an industrial sewing machine re-fitter, a collection of the quirkiest mechanical curios await the inquisitive.

By coincidence our visit was hot on the heels of the popular Great British Sewing Bee featuring the museum. With around 600 machines of historical or design interest, the rooms are a fascinating treasure trove of beautiful machines, assorted sewing paraphernalia and various Victoriana oddities.

The Doctor Who Museum (And Shop)

November 19, 2013

Look away now if you’re not a Sci-Fi fan – our visit to the Doctor Who Museum was pure, unadulterated geekery. I’ve never read any Doctor Who books – with the TV series being so captivating I’ve never really felt the need to.
Doctor Who Museum
I have however graced a Doctor Who Museum. Will that do instead? Museums are hallowed places full of learning much like books. Just think of it as a living book.
