Celebrating my 5-year Business Anniversary

This blog post is a little special. More than a little special – I’m celebrating my 5-year business anniversary. I genuinely never dreamed that I’d get this far, and thinking about it has me more than a little choked up. (The fact that I’ve been so busy with work that this post is technically two months late is neither here nor there…!)

I’ve been freelancing as a Social Media consultant for half a decade – HALF A DECADE – now. I’ve clicked and clacked my laptop keyboard as far away as New Zealand, and as close as my home office. I’m so proud to have worked with a gamut of businesses: tiny husband & wife businesses underlaid with passion through to multi-national corporate businesses.

I’ve loved working with a long-term stable of retainer clients, worked on one-off projects and had clients return over and over again (with one client I’ve worked with 3 generations of marketing team). I’ve used my experience to assist some incredible charities, helping to support their life-saving & life-changing campaigns.

I’ve learned SO much. Each client/project has taught me a little more each time; from managing expectations through to watching posts go viral. I can honestly claim ‘crisis communications’ as a skillset having lived through a global pandemic – though honestly it’s something I know no-one would like to have – and produced excellent return on marketing investment for clients.

Over these years I’ve up-skilled, I’ve run paid social media campaigns worth 5 figures, I’ve mentored a few fantastic women and tried to give back as much as I can to some of the online communities who have supported me, including initiating & co-running online training sessions that reached as far as New Zealand, Vancouver and the Philippines as a way to help businesses through the tough times.

I’ve had two CFOs (Chief Feline Officers) who have delighted clients – some of whom even request a four-pawed presence at video meetings – and one incredibly supportive husband.

What a time it’s been [a throwback to last year’s celebrations.]

The Social Media landscape has changed so much as well – it’s an ever-changing, ever-demanding mistress. Drawing on more than 10 years’ experience, as both a blogger and content creator, I’m thriving on promoting unique businesses through tailored social media management, bespoke coaching and training, elegant photography, influencer collaborations, paid advertising campaigns, graphic design and content writing.

I am proud to say that 90% of my clients are referrals; 70% are long term with the remainder on a strategic/project basis; and all of them put up with my occasional bad jokes when we meet to plan their social media marketing campaigns.

What a half decade it’s been. I’m looking to the future, whilst musing on all the lessons of the past. I still can’t believe I’m celebrating my 5 year business anniversary; and I can’t wait to see what the next few will bring.
