Where to Stay in Nelson, New Zealand | Nelson Accommodation

Many visitors visiting the South Island of New Zealand buy a Campervan (and sell it when they leave the country) which means their Nelson accommodation is sorted, but if you’re just road tripping with a normal car and trying to decide where to stay in Nelson, you can’t go wrong with The Sails, a luxury motel. (Or, if you want to break up those nights in the cosy caravan…)

I’ve never heard of a ‘luxury motel’ either, we’ve stayed in motels (on our American roadtrips) and 5 star luxury, so I was curious to see how they intersected.

Spoiler: I’ll be looking out for more ‘luxury motels’ in the future, if they’re as nice as this!

They kindly let me check-in fairly late (we’d been tripping around the beautiful Marlborough Sounds) and I simply couldn’t sink beneath those inviting covers. The team could’t have been lovelier, from the emails before I arrived all the way to kindly looking after my ginormous suitcase after check-out (and giggling at how heavy my carry on luggage was.)

…before hopping out of bed the next morning to explore the brunch offerings nearby. It was perfectly situated Nelson accommodation. The Sails Nelson is just 500 yards from Nelson’s shops and restaurants, and 15 minutes’ walk from Nelson Cathedral. Tahunanui Beach is 8 minutes’ drive away.
